Sandra has been an interpreter and cultural consultant for the past 15 years. She has had the privilege of interpreting for two Nobel Peace Prize Laureates: Wangari Muta Maathai and Rigoberta Menchú Tumm. She has also interpreted for Mexican President Felipe Calderon, the President of the Inter-American Development Bank, the Energy Minister of Equatorial Guinea and official delegates from the governments of Mexico Colombia, Venezuela and Chile and the United States.
Some of her career highlights as a consultant and SME include:
– Taking part in the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreter’s Team that developed both the test and cut scores for the first National Certification for Healthcare Interpreters.
– Ms. Tapia has worked in special assignments with the Mexican government as a consultant and facilitator for the National Institute of Indigenous Languages (INALI – Spanish acronym).
– Participating in a multidisciplinary panel to develop the curricula, best practices and training material for court interpreters in Mexico.
